Flight against the odds
Just a quick note to say this is the best bad day I can remember!
Let me tell you quickly what I'm going on about here. I woke up early and did the final cleaning of my condo, packed my car and officially moved out. During this I kept leaving the key fob to let myself back into the building upstairs in my room. Maybe it was the curse of living on the 13th floor! Made for a lot of extra elevator trips.
I figured things out and travelled into work extra sleepy. Started the morning with having my dental filling repaired. Surprisingly it was smooth and painless. I left the dentist and drove straight to Tim Hortons for a 10 pack of timbits.
Easy morning at work which finished up at noon without issues. Jumped in my car and hit the road to the airport. I decided to use a park 'n fly economy option. Showed up and the lot was full so I was upgraded to the next level of parking service 5 mins down the road. I only sat 20 mins at the bus stop and the shuttle made it's rounds finally dropping me off at my terminal.
I made it inside and my boarding pass on my phone had disappeared from my app. Weird. I went to get in line to speak with a guest services agent and realized I only had 4 out of 5 bags with me. I left one carry on bag on the shuttle bus!
In a panic I phoned the company. My call went to voicemail. I tried to flag another shuttle bus from the company from the sidewalk of the airport but it kept on rolling. The shuttle stopped a few hundred meters ahead so I huddled and explained my situation to the driver. She must have already heard about it and told me he was coming back with it and I should wait at the dropoff location. Hussling back I had to wait about 30mins. Probably airport traffic but then the shuttle came with my bag and I tipped the driver $10 as a thank you. I had my $2000 gaming laptop in my bag and no luggage tag. Maybe I should have tipped him more!
I checked my bags for my flight and was given a different seat number than what I booked with last night's check in online. No issue for me. I'm just grateful I've made it with everything on time! I pick up some luggage tags for my carry on and borrow a pen. The paper is too laminated and won't write. I'm feeling a little defeated until the employee points out the tag is in a sleeve and I need to take the paper out to write on it. Embarrassed I tag my carry on, laugh off my struggles and breeze through security.
Now sitting at my departure gate my flight is delayed. Only 15 mins so far but with the day I'm having anything could happen now. Sitting here I only have one boarding pass and so I figured my flight changes flight numbers when I arrive in Ottawa before continuing to Halifax. As hard as this is to admit, my wife made me ask the staff about the boarding pass and she was right, I was missing my second boarding pass!
The great news is that for every slip up today a counter balance has happened to work everything out. My stars are still lined up to get me home for a weekend of fun and photography.
Hopefully I'll have some photos from the east coast to share with you over the weekend.
Wish me luck and I'll update you all soon as the adventure continues!
