Sunset beach and dealing with crowds

It has been hectic at work and incredibly hard to find time to edit photos and even harder to post them online to the site. Who knew I would be so busy while in Vancouver, BC?

I'm struggling a little to stay awake and post a few photos for you right now. In part I am doing this because I met a cool couple at a place called Sunset beach! I was walking down to the beach with my gear to, surprisingly enough, take a photo or two of the sunset! As I made my way along the waterfront I came across someone practicing meditation or yoga or breathing exercises of some sort and the sun caught her as a rim light while I walked by.  I back tracked a few steps and grabbed a few photos. The timing wasn't great for my shots and I didn't want to interrupt her so I sauntered onward towards the beach.

The beach was packed. Interestingly there are logs everywhere laid out for spectators to watch the sunset. Nice big BC tree logs. My local contact where I stay told me there was a big structure which might be neat to photograph as the sun was setting too and so I struck out and easily found it. I honestly don't have a sweet clue what it is. I should probably google it soon and find out! All I know is EVERYONE seemed to want to jump on it and stand in the way of my photos so in the end I just took a few shots with the crowds passing through the structure. Good enough for now!

Now with the sun setting and casting a beautiful glow on the ocean I could see a couple on the water with stand up paddle boards. I walked along the beach front until I had one of them falling into the sun's reflection setting on the ocean and took a few shots.

Here I was not sure what to do for my camera settings. I figured I should point my camera at the sand first without the sun in my shot and adjust my settings using my camera's metering system which I had set to matrix then bring the camera up and compose my shot. I'm torn between loving the shot and a feeling of getting things wrong! The photos are pretty classy. I love them on their own but on the other hand I felt they looked very different than what the scene looked like to my naked eye.

This isn't a problem except that it wasn't entirely deliberate. What is frustrating me at the moment is that I didn't mean to shoot it and have it turn out like this.

I wish I had purposely shot the paddle board photos the way I did but I feel like I can't claim much credit for this time as it turned into a happy little accident.

Another happy little accident is the fact that these paddle boarders who were very far out to see ended up along the beach ahead of me as I was walking home so I was able to introduce myself to them showing off accidentally nice photo I had snapped and grabbing their email address to share it with them.

I had the photos to them about 36 hrs later and I received a flattering email about this site and the photos! I love hearing people enjoy photos I have taken, especially a photo I may have taken of them! I really appreciate it and I hope to have many more experiences like this as I continue learning how to get the most out of my camera.

This weekend I should have some interesting photos coming up. I'm not entirely sure what I will be doing but it is a long weekend and you can be sure something incredible in Vancouver is bound to cross my path!

Enjoy the shots and thank you for the location recommendation "C" and thank you for the compliments on the website "L". I hope you all are following my Instagram as well!

More photos soon everyone! Cheers!
