Bending over backwards
I recently bought studio lights second hand at an amazing price and have been anxious to try them out. Lighting indoors in the setting that subjects would want has been a struggle for me so far.
A recent example would be a family who wanted Christmas photos this year in their basement around the tree. There was a moderate amount of lighting but having some portable lights to set up and deliver a constant and predictable shooting environment would have been ideal for me.
Now I have the basics with lighting. I'd like to try to find a way to use the stands and umbrellas with my flashes as well as a portable option. I don't have an adapter to mount the flashes on the stands yet. That's a future me problem!
So, I have lights that I'm itching to use and fortune favored me with an unexpected event!
I made a friend in Ontario earlier this year who is very passionate about Yoga. I learned through her that some fitness groups will post challenges and reward members for meeting those goals.
My friend messaged while I was in Montreal for a coffee while she was on a road trip. It was still pretty early and I was just stepping out my hotel doors to go to St Joseph's Oratory. I switched destinations towards the coffee shop instead.
I am always talking about my latest photos. I'm sure anyone who has met me in the last year can attest I might be a nuisance because I speak of little else. We started talking about ways I could build my portfolio and hopefully prepare to advertise myself as a photographer in the future. I was asked if I could do fitness or yoga photos. I figured I could pull it off and she offered to pay me for my time. I had to say yes! On a side note it turned out to be the same amount that I had just paid for my new lights. Lucky me!
Not much else to say so let me show you the shots!
