Sunday’s rest and relaxation took me on a road trip to Baseline Dragway in Manitoba. A two hour drive from where I’m currently staying which pulled me through Riding Mountain National Park again and another encounter with BEARS!
An hour of twist and turns and empty plains later I finally found the strip known as the Baseline Dragway. I was greeted at the entrance by some very friendly folks who put a bracelet on me for my $10 admission to their opening weekend event and directed me down the field to park.
It was very windy as I climbed into the top of the spectator bleachers and dialed in my camera settings. I’m not sure why I chose it but I setup at f2.8 and 1/3200 to 1/4000 of a second shutter speed. Most shots at 200mm because I was a ways away from the action and as high up as I could get to see over the race barriers. ISO 100 in the daylight. Thinking back I could have played around a bit with my variable ND filter. I was pretty well maxed out on settings for shutter speed and ISO and was lucky it was just hitting the lightmeter exposure. If I put on the filter I could lower shutter speed and keep my f2.8 aperture if things became any brighter outside. I also could have used it to lower the shutter speed to allow a little bit of background blur as I pan the camera to track the cars to make them appear to be in motion while keeping the car itself in sharp focus. Next time!
On to some of the shots! I’ll add the extra photos I don’t post here into a google drive for a while here just in case anyone from the race finds there way to this post and wants a copy of a shot.
Enjoy!
