The new camera is here and making a splash! Picked up a Nikon D750 on black Friday and I’ve been itching to shoot with it. So many new buttons and features to me that I need to learn. So far the light metering options have not done what I expected yet. I will figure it out though!
A friend at work heard me gripping about how I needed practice and she referred her friend to me who has some previous modeling experience and wanted a new set of photos that she could hopefully add to her portfolio.
I won’t say too much more about it other than it was 10 degrees and cloudy with sun last weekend and we met up to test out the gear.
A favorite of mine is graffiti. I love the way it looks as a backdrop and it seems to be incredibly easy to find in any city.

A short trip around the corner is Gibbon’s park. We wanted to try and shoot on the large bridge at the entrance to the park and with the Tamron 70 - 200 f2.8 the photos turned out stunning. Took a bit of time to find the right pause between the crowds at the park but we figured things out.

We moved from the bridge to the park so we could get some of the fall colors in the shots. We found two benches to shoot from. One of them was in the middle of the field and asking Kelly to walk in those heels across wet grass since it had been raining that morning may have been too much. I think that walk was worth it though!

Our last stop was going to be next to some water at the entrance to Kains woods. Unfortunately the leaves had already fallen and the sun was not working with us. We walked a touch towards the river to a wooden fence, snapped the last few photos there and called it a day.
All of the photos were on Auto ISO which is a new feature to me as far as cameras go. My old Nikon D5100 didn’t have it as something you could activate at anytime. It worked brilliantly. Made my life a little too easy. I had to use it since I hadn’t truly learned my light metering yet. Right next to the wall of graffiti was a nice stone wall. You can see two of the stone wall photos up in the graffiti carousel but that is the only two out of the 30 I shot which I could save. I learned a lot and mucked up a lot. I feel like I came out on top though!
Thanks to Kelly for the tips and coaching of what she has learned modeling so I can use it when coaching people in their photos in the future. If anyone wants to jump in front of the camera for me while I struggle with my light meter feel free to give me a shout!
