Celebration of Light

On the same day as the Anime Revolution convention was the last fireworks display for the celebration of light in Vancouver. I went to see Sweden's show at English bay and had essentially forgotten how to take firework photos. Maybe I was distracted by how incredible it was? Truly stunning!

This night I was going to get it right and what helped the most was a chance visit into a camera shop I passed on my way to the anime convention. I stopped into a place called Leo's and was helped by a really great guy named Jack.

Jack was awesome enough to bring down a few lenses for me to try onto my camera and we talked a bit about the city and then onto tips and tricks for fireworks. There is an interesting "bulb" trick I would really like to try but I didn't get a chance to this time. I kept it to long exposure shots around 1 second to 2 seconds. Just playing around with the camera on a tripod and a wired remote I picked up from Leo's.

I didn't go to English bay to watch this time (I highly recommend fighting the thousands of people for a seat in English bay if you get the chance to go). I took a trip over to Kitsilano beach and had some mini doughnuts and some strange health brew drink that was really tasty from the beach canteen. If you do go to the celebration of lights someday, the fireworks are set to music which you can listen to on the radio or they blast it at English bay. Big party!

Without further adieu - Ka-BOOM! Here are a few shots from team South Korea!
